METABOLIC TYPE VI DIET PLAN

(POOR METABOLIZER)

Vegetarian · Lacto-Vegetarian · Ovo-Vegetarian · Ovo-Lacto-Vegetarian

Characteristics

Type VI people are very poor metabolizers, meaning they handle most foods poorly. They often have difficulty with digestion, absorption, and metabolism of all food types. They require most foods cooked and need more supplementation than the average person. They should emphasize whole and complete foods while eliminating refined, processed, and synthetic items.

There is usually suppressed immune and endocrine system function in this type.

This Metabolic Type

  • Burns sugar (carbohydrates) inefficiently and uses sugar for energy. Carbohydrates should be whole, complete, unrefined, and cooked.
  • Can eat mostly cooked vegetables and fruits; avoid raw whenever possible. Meals should include 50–60% fresh, cooked vegetables and fruits (including desserts).
  • 50–60% of foods should come from the Alkaline Forming Foods Chart and 40–50% from the Acid Forming Foods Chart (see About Your Blood Test manual). All red animal meats must be eliminated. Use beans, fish, and fowl as primary protein sources; nuts, seeds, eggs, and cheeses as secondary proteins.
  • Emphasize the following (A–E):
Cook most foods, eliminate refined products, and balance proteins from plant and lean animal sources—supplementation may be required.

Subtype : M Type 4

Metabolic Type IV Mediterranean Diet

METABOLIC TYPE IV DIET PLAN

(EXCELLENT METABOLIZER)

Characteristics

Type IV people usually have a genetic background from and around the Mediterranean Sea and do well on the Mediterranean diet.

Typically common among Spanish, Italian, Greek, Israeli, and Arabic populations.

This Metabolic Type

  • Burns sugar (carbohydrates) at a moderate rate and uses sugar for energy. Tolerates most carbohydrates, including those with a mid-range glycemic index (50–80).
  • Can eat mostly raw vegetables with limited amounts of fruit. Diet should be rich in salads, fresh uncooked vegetables, and fruits (as desserts), making up 40–50% of meals.
  • 50–60% of foods should come from the Alkaline Forming Foods Chart and 40–50% from the Acid Forming Foods Chart (see About Your Blood Test manual). Limit red meats to 2–4 times per week. Use beans, fish, and fowl as other primary protein sources; nuts, seeds, eggs, and cheeses as secondary proteins.
  • Emphasize the following foods (A–F):
A Mediterranean-style diet with balanced carbs, healthy fats, and limited red meats works best for this type.
